Welcome to the Blue Dragon Taekwondo website.
This site is also dedicated to all those Taekwondo enthusiasts and other Martial Artists. Here you will find information about our Taekwondo classes, events and other interesting and cool facts about Taekwondo.
Special thanks to our instructor,Sa Bum Nim Marshall Hale, whom without, this site could not be possible. We promise to make you proud!
Why was this site created?
This site was created out of the need to be able to easily communicate information about our Taekwondo classes, schedules and events to our students and friends. Over the time, this humble announcement page grew into the site it is today. Among the information included in these pages, you will find specific materials related to our Taekwondo classes, and many audiovisual aids to facilitate the practical aspect of the Taekwondo as a sport.
If you ever done a web search on a search engine for the term "Taekwondo", you will literally get thousands of hits for Taekwondo related sites and pages. Also, you will realize that there is a lot of good, but scattered information out there about this martial art. Some sites have very good history, some others great graphics, others very good instructions, etc. We felt that it would be nice to have a site where all these information could be gathered and presented in an easy to follow format, so, we will try to do exactly that in this site.
Everybody has different points of view and beliefs to live by. Taekwondo's origins and history, are surrounded by mysticism and tradition. We respectfully had chosen not to discuss the philosophical or religious aspects of this art, other than they exist as a fact of history.
Other thing that you may notice, especially if you have visited other sites or read Taekwondo literature, is the fact that many of the words used in these pages, have several ways of spelling them. For example: The word used to describe the “battle yell” or “KEUP”, can be found spelled as “KEHUP”, “KIUP”,“KIAP”, etc.
There are many theories on why this happened. Some of these words have “evolved” through out generations, and some have been “assimilated” into the language of the Taekwondo practitioners with many variants, contributing to these changes. Taekwondo is one of the most practiced martial arts in the world, so “mixed in the pot”, are many languages, accents, countries, territories and traditions.
But no need to worry, we will not have writing Korean grammar test, we will not be doing Korean spelling bee, and we will not concentrate on the linguistics or Prosody of these words. We will try to keep them as close as we can to the original for practical purposes alone, so for those “purist” out there, you are welcome to substitute these words for whatever works for you.
We all practice Taekwondo for many different reasons. Some of us want to lose weight, others to manage stress, or to learn self defense, to achieve discipline, to gain flexibility, to have more energy, to boost confidence or a combination of these reasons and more.
Sa Bum Nim Marshall Hale once said : "Everyone is on his or hers own journey, when it comes to practicing Taekwondo. My job is just to show you the path for you to follow".
Whatever your reasons, whatever you goals, we sincerely hope that this site will assist you on your journey, so you can become a better person, a great martial artist, and be able to face life with self confidence while showing respect for others.
Thank you for visiting with us, and KEUP!!!
A message from the Webmaster.
Hello! My name is Beto, and I'm the owner and webmaster of thewww.bluedragontkd.net/ site.
I always had a fascination and great respect for the martial arts, but for many reasons, I never had the opportunity to practice and dedicate more time to them.
As a child, I was able to take Judo classes on the summer, and I loved it! Unfortunately, this happened only in the summer, so the little I'd learned, faded away through out the year. Later on, during my early teenage years, I was introduced to Taekwondo by Joel Ramirez, a gentleman whom I used to work for, and was a first degree black belt on Moo Duk KwanTaekwondo. He would rent a racquetball court once a week, and will teach me and other neighborhood kids Taekwondo at no charge, it was great! But when Mr. Ramirez had to moved to another state, Taekwondo eluded me again. A few years later, I was able to attend with my wife, to the Martial Arts Academy in Orlando Fl, where they would teach Taekwondo, Aikido,Hwa Rang Doand T'ai Chi Ch'uan . We were able to advance 3 Geups or belts, but the school closed, and once again, time and Taekwondo passed me by.
We moved to the Canton NC area a few years ago, and joined the Haywood Regional Fitness Center. I got pretty excited when I heard, that Taekwondo classes would soon be available, and my desire for more Taekwondo was revived!
Together with my daughter, we were fortunate enough to be members of the first class given bySa Bum Nim Marshall Haleat the Fitness Center, and we have being practicing with him since. Now my son has joined us in class, and Taekwondo is a family affair.
I decided to create this site out of the need to share information and to have communication with our class. The site started as a announcements only page, but after several hours searching for terms and technical data, I realized that there was to much great information scattered on several sites, and jumping from site to site was not only time consuming, it was also very frustrating. So I thought, that it would be nice to have all that information on one site, it was then, that the www.bluedragontkd.net/ was born.
This site may not be perfect, and is a constant "work in progress". I will try to keep things simple and to the point, while presenting pertinent information in a more organized, neat and entertaining manner.
I sincerely hope you like this site, and that it will be an aid on your quest for Taekwondo greatness!
Thank you and KEUP!!!
